Simply Scuba Reg Case
Material
Outside: Semi-hard shell case with a spandex-like material. When the case is being used the way a professional would, subjected to salt water whilst being pulled in and out of a kit bag on a daily basis, the case wears in a little quicker than I believe they possibly designed it to. The semi-hard shell becomes much softer, therefore less protection for your regulators and less piece of mind for yourself.
Inside: Foam wears well with salt water, but not with the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun will cause the glue of the foam to dissolve. However the actual foam itself still hasn’t begun to flake at all, which is almost surprising after the amount of time it spends being wet.
Functionality
Plenty of space for twinset regulators if necessary, with egg-carton shaped foam inserts that are glued to the interior sides of the lid for extra protection. I really like the handle, no complaints for carrying long distances. There is no choice for a shoulder strap. No separate pockets, which would be a nice feature. The last thing I’ll say is that it might make more sense if it was circular? When we as divers “fold” our regulators for storage after diving, they certainly don’t end up in a rectangle shape! I believe a circular shape would not only keep the regulators more secure inside but also it would have a much better fit the at the end of most holdall style kit bags.
Protection
Feel like if I drop this, my regulator will probably be fine, however, the case could offer much more protection if it had a harder shell. Much better than some of the soft bag styles though.
Zipper
The zip needs upgrading in a BIG way! Not sure why we’re still having this problem when we seem to have solved it for BCD’s & Wetsuits?! Why can’t companies just bite the bullet and fork out a little extra on production costs so that we can have a functioning zipper that doesn’t start corroding at the first sign of salt water. I will actually be writing a separate review on Zips and the problem I have with most of them, very soon.
Expectations
I expected a much more solid structure box, especially around the zipper area. When pressure is applied to the top and bottom of the case the zipper area kind of folds in on itself which compresses the shape of the box.. therefore squashing your regulator inside, which they specifically say it does not do in their own video review.
Value for Money
Inside felt has held up which is great and almost unexpected. Thankfully, one of the zippers is still in working condition. Case itself has no damage after extensive and heavy use. All in all a good case but lacking in overall quality of zipper and sturdiness. I continue to use this case but certainly looking for another one to replace it at the same time.
